Liz Toole is a Brighton-based painter and printmaker. She creates imaginary scenes filled with the patterns of nature inspired by both the Sussex countryside and the diversity of life she found whilst travelling in Africa. Within her work as a whole, you will see extensive use of nature as a metaphor for human emotions.
She focuses on looking at the details of trees and plants, Indian textiles and bird encyclopaedias, and merging these sources to create, wall-paper like patterns that celebrate the English decorative tradition. She uses techniques of lino-cutting and screen-printing onto special printmaking papers from the UK, France, Japan and India.
And one more thing … she’s a tiny bit obsessed with birds!
